Frequently asked questions

Find answers about your first visit, our community and what we believe.

Your first visit

When is the service, and how long does it last?

We meet every Sunday at 11.00 at Dronningens gate 10, in the heart of Moss town centre. The entrance is on the pedestrian street. The service usually lasts around 1 hour and 40 minutes. Afterwards, you are welcome to join us for free food, coffee and a chat in the café.

Can I come even if I am not a Christian?

Yes. You are welcome whether you believe, have doubts, follow another faith or are simply curious. You do not need to be a member or know anyone beforehand.

What happens during the service?

We sing together, pray and listen to a message from the Bible. On some Sundays we share communion, and there is often an opportunity to receive prayer. You can sit and listen or take part as much as you wish. No one is asked to introduce themselves.

Does it cost anything to come?

No. Both the service and the food and coffee afterwards are free. We usually take an offering to support the church's work, but giving is entirely voluntary. You are equally welcome either way.

Where can I park?

We have 18 free parking spaces at Svaebakken 2 for those attending the Sunday service. From the car park, walk to the main entrance on the pedestrian street in Dronningens gate.

The “Directions and parking” page has a map, walking directions and alternative parking options.

Is there step-free access?

Yes. The main entrance from the pedestrian street has step-free access all the way into the main hall. There are stairs to children's church. We also have a toddler room, a baby changing room and space for pushchairs in the back row of the main hall. Please contact us before your visit if you need any adjustments.

Can I talk to someone before I come?

Of course. Pastor Thomas can answer questions about faith and the church, while Linda and the welcome team can help with the practical details of your visit.

What should I wear?

Wear whatever you feel comfortable in. We have no dress code. You will meet people in both everyday clothes and more dressed-up outfits.

Children, young people and community

What is there for children?

Children's church is for children aged 3 to 12, with Bible stories, singing, games and activities. The children join us in the main hall at the start and then go to their own programme. Parents are welcome to come along.

For the youngest children, we have a toddler room with toys, an audio feed and a glass wall overlooking the main hall. You can follow the service while the children play.

Have the children's and youth ministry leaders provided police clearance certificates?

Yes. All main leaders in our children's and youth ministries have provided police clearance certificates. We follow the Norwegian Pentecostal movement's guidelines for safe churches. Please contact us if you have questions or would like to tell us about anything your child needs.

What is there for young people?

Youth Alive is for young people aged 13 and over. We meet on Fridays in odd-numbered weeks at 19.00 for a devotional, activities, food and time together. In even-numbered weeks, there are boys' and girls' connect groups on Thursdays at 18.30. We do not meet during school holidays.

Marcus Dahl Hansen and Hannah Dahl Hansen are the contacts for our youth ministry. See the programme for upcoming gatherings.

What is Tentro?

Tentro is a confirmation programme in the free church tradition, combining teaching about faith with community and shared experiences. The year ends with a special celebration service.

The next group is for those starting 9th grade in autumn 2027. You do not need to be a Christian, baptised or a member to take part. You can find information and registration on the Tentro page.

What is a connect group?

A connect group is a smaller community where we meet in each other's homes for food, conversation about faith and everyday life, Bible reading and prayer. It is a good way to get to know others.

Anita Barmen will be happy to help you find a group. You can contact her on 924 38 702.

Do you have anything for young adults?

Yes. We have a connect group for young women in their 20s and 30s, led by Tharcile Ntwari, and a separate group for young men in the same age range, led by Thomas Hansen.

Please get in touch if you would like to join or find out more.

What is the evening Bible school?

Word of Life Bible School Moss is a part-time Bible school that meets on Wednesdays from 18.30–21.10 during the school year. Teaching is in Norwegian and English, at the church and online.

The Bible school is suitable both for those who are new to faith and those who have been Christians for a long time. You can find more information and registration on the Bible school page.

Faith, prayer and next steps

Who is Jesus?

We believe that Jesus is the Son of God, our Saviour and Lord. He became human and showed us God's love. Through his death and resurrection, he opened the way to forgiveness, new life and fellowship with God.

What does it mean to believe in Jesus?

Believing in Jesus means putting your trust in him and receiving him as Saviour and Lord. We believe that salvation is a gift from God, given by grace. You do not need to earn God's love or put your whole life in order before turning to him.

Is there room for me if I have doubts or questions?

Yes. You do not need to have all the answers to explore the Christian faith. You are welcome to listen, ask questions and get to know us at your own pace. We would be happy to talk with you about faith and the things that are hard to understand.

Can someone pray for me?

Yes. You can speak with us after the service or contact us beforehand, whatever you believe. We are happy to listen and pray with you about what you are going through. Receiving prayer is voluntary. We ask before placing a hand on you when we pray.

I want to follow Jesus. What do I do now?

You can start by speaking to Jesus in your own words. Tell him that you want forgiveness and wish to follow him. The prayer on the “Who is Jesus?” page may help.

Please get in touch with us. We want to listen, answer your questions and help you take your next steps with Bible reading, prayer, community and baptism. You can also receive a free Bible.

What is baptism in the Holy Spirit?

We believe that all believers can experience being filled with the power of the Holy Spirit, as the first Christians did on the day of Pentecost. This gives us power to live as Christians and share our faith in Jesus.

Our statement of faith describes speaking in tongues as the outward sign of baptism in the Holy Spirit. We would be happy to pray with you if you would like to learn more or seek this experience.

What is speaking in tongues, and do I have to speak in tongues to belong?

Speaking in tongues is prayer or praise to God in a language a person has not learned, given by the Holy Spirit. You may hear people praying in tongues in a Pentecostal church.

You do not need to speak in tongues to be a Christian, attend our services or become a member here. We receive salvation through faith in Jesus.

Do you believe that God can heal?

Yes. We believe that Jesus still heals, so we pray for those who are ill. Receiving prayer is voluntary. We also thank God for doctors and medicine, and we do not ask anyone to stop medical treatment.

What if I do not get well after receiving prayer?

We do not understand everything, and we do not always see the change we pray for. We will continue to pray, offer support and carry one another's burdens. We believe that God is good and near, even when life is difficult.

About the church

What kind of church is Livets Ord Moss?

We are an evangelical Pentecostal free church in the heart of Moss town centre. The church is part of both the Livets Ord movement and the Pentecostal movement in Norway. Jesus and the Bible are at the centre of our faith and life.

Why are you no longer called Filadelfia Moss?

The church was founded as Filadelfia Moss in 1929. After a two-year process, the congregation decided on 9 April 2026 to become part of the Livets Ord movement and take the name Livets Ord Moss.

It is the same church, with a long history in Moss. You can read more about its history and the name change on the “About the church” page.

What is your vision?

“We want to be a church that follows Jesus by putting others first, so that people can meet God and experience his love through us.”

We call our vision The 10.45 Church. The name connects Jesus' words about serving others in Mark 10:45 with our gathering at 10.45 before the service. At that time, we pray together, encourage those who will be serving and prepare to welcome everyone who comes.

How is the church funded?

Our work is funded by voluntary donations from members and friends, as well as public grants as a registered faith community. The accounts are presented to the congregation each year.

Donations make services, children's and youth ministry, community and mission possible. Giving is entirely voluntary. You can read more on the “Make a donation” page.

Baptism, communion and membership

How do you practise baptism?

We practise believers' baptism. This means that someone who has personally come to faith in Jesus is baptised by full immersion in water, in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

If you would like to be baptised, we first have a conversation about faith and what baptism means. Baptism is free and usually takes place during a service.

I was baptised as a child. How do you view that?

We believe that baptism goes together with personal faith and repentance. We therefore encourage those who were baptised as infants to be baptised as believers.

We would be happy to talk with you about this, with respect for your background and your questions.

How do I become a member?

Membership is for those who believe in Jesus, have been baptised as believers and wish to belong to the church. Contact Pastor Thomas, and we will talk together about faith and what membership involves.

You are welcome at services, connect groups and the café without being a member. Take the time you need to get to know us.

What is communion, and can I take part?

At communion, we share bread and non-alcoholic wine in remembrance of Jesus' death for us. We share communion regularly during our services.

Communion is for everyone who believes in Jesus, whichever church you belong to. You are free to choose not to take part.
